About

Canada’s fourth-largest university, York University, sometimes referred to as YorkU or YU, is a public research university situated in Toronto, Canada. The university traces its roots back to 1959 when it was established as a non-denominational institution by the York University Act. Upon receiving royal assent in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the same year, the university went on to welcome its first class in the fall of 1960. It is one of the most popular universities in the country with impressive overall as well as subject-wise rankings throughout. 

 

The university is divided into eleven faculties and twenty-eight research centres providing programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and professional levels across a wide variety of disciplines and areas of study.

The university currently houses over 56,000 students enrolled in different programmes at varying levels. The university is fairly selective in terms of its admissions policy with the York University acceptance rate being at 27%. Facilities

York University has three campuses in the city of Toronto and campus buildings at other locations in the city. Keele Campus serves as the university’s main campus housing the faculties of Fine Arts, Liberal Arts, Law, Business, Science and Engineering, Environmental Studies, Health and Education.  Home to the Leslie Frost Library and the liberal arts faculty is Glendon, the second campus of the university. The third campus of the university is in the city of Markham. Other locations include satellite facilities of the Schulich School of Business and Osgoode Hall Law School at the Miles S. Nadal Management Centre and One Dundas West Tower respectively.

Admission

York University Entry Requirements

Every university has set eligibility criteria upon which students can avail of admission to the education institution. Primary determinants of gaining entry to a university programme are past academic records and achievements and current test results upon which one qualifies for admission. York University has a fairly selective admissions policy which makes it easy for students to get a foot in provided they meet all the York University entry requirements. Some of the basic eligibility criteria for admission to York are listed as follows:

Undergraduate Admissions

  • A recognised higher secondary education certificate is required for admission to an undergraduate programme at the university and score requirements depend on the course the candidate wishes to pursue.
  • Accepted English language proficiency test scores include TOEFL, IELTS and the Duolingo English Test. Score requirements are further specified by which course the applicant wishes to take. 
  • An overall band score of 6.5 or higher is required for IELTS and a minimum score of 83 is required for TOEFL.

 

Postgraduate Admissions

  • An undergraduate degree from a recognised post-secondary institution is required for admission to a postgraduate programme in York. Some programmes require a three-year Bachelor’s programme along with work experience in the relevant field. A minimum Grade Point Average of B or an equivalent score is required.
  • The accepted English language proficiency test scores are IELTS, TOEFL or the Duolingo English Test. Minimum accepted scores are dictated by the course one chooses to take. 

 

York University Fees
